Boat Description

HONU is docked in Cortez, FL and ready to sail, she is in very good condition, 30' LOA, and has 3.5' shoal draft. Designed by Bob Johnson of Island Packet fame, she looks similar to the IP 26. HONU was first commissioned in May,1990, and at 6,000# displacement and 2,500# of ballast is considered to be of medium displacement. With nearly a 43% Dis/Bal ratio she is comfortable to sail and is stiff in the puffs. After I purchased HONU in 2013, I had all the old bottom paint stripped off and an epoxy barrier coat put on for blister protection prior to new bottom paint. HONU has an efficient Universal 11hp M2-12 diesel engine that gives about 4-5 hours per gallon of motoring at about 5 kts (depending on conditions), and sails at 5-6 kts in 10 kts of wind on a beam reach. In 2021 I had an oil analysis performed that disclosed no metal shaving or other foreign matter in the oil, indicating the engine was in very good condition internally. HONU also has a beautiful teak salon that is spacious and comfortable with 6' headroom and can sleeps a family of 6. In addition, qualifying as a Florida Antique Vessel means that there is no longer an annual registration fee, just a few dollars for the annual sticker. Also, Honu is in Cortez, FL in a very protected marina on the ICW and sustained no damage at all from Hurricane Milton. The slip may be available.
